Bernard McMullen was born in Birmingham, though his childhood was spent in the mining village of Hurley in Warwickshire. He joined the army at the age of 15 and served for 22 years. In 1982 he was awarded the British Empire Medal for gallantry, he started painting during this period.
He has had several successful exhibitions particulary the one in 1994 at the City of Salford Art Gallery, which really brought him to prominence. His work has been acquired by many leading organisations including BUPA. Legal & General and the Les Kirkman Foundation.
