Norman Clifford Jaques was born in Manchester and studied at the College of Art and Technology from 1937 - 1942. He lived in Sale for many years but following the death of his wife Marjorie he moved to a retirement home close to one of his sons in the Chapel Allerton area of Leeds.
He worked at The Manchester College of Art where he was the Senior Lecturer in the Printmaking Department. In the late 1960's early 1970's he was also the Head of Art at Stretford Grammar School for Girls.
He was a member and served as President of both The Manchester Academy Of Fine Arts and The Manchester Art Club.
He has exhibited extensively including the Royal Academy and the V & A. Public Galleries in Oldham, Manchester and Stockport hold examples of his work.
He is now being increasingly appreciated and collected but it is in his own domain of Printmaking that he particularly excels.
