He was born in Beckenham, Kent and was educated in Leyburn, Yorkshire. He studied at The Manchester School of Art and later taught there for many years. He also lectured at The Bolton College of Education and Withington Further Education Centre. He was now living in Heaton Moor Stockport.
He travelled widely throughout Europe and much of his work reflects on the time he spent in France and Italy.
He took part in numerous exhibitions especially at gallaries in the North West of England. He was a member of The Manchester Academy of Fine Art and his work is now in many public and private collections including that of the Manchester City Art Gallery.
He died at the age of 70 in Buxton Derbyshire.
